Cape Photo of the Day - Photo #244

After a wicked night of wind courtesy of Hurricane Sandy, our lovely Lake Claire was looking none the worse for the wear this morning. A few trees down, a night of power outage, and some very high tides were the extent of the Cape's beating by this unprecedented storm. I think most of us count ourselves lucky. Our thoughts are with those who fared worse both in our area and all along the Eastern seaboard.

Cape Photo of the Day - Photo #197

Something about the way this house is nestled back in the trees along the shores of Lake Claire beach has always appealed to me. Way back before it was renovated, I used to imagine it as the setting for a mystery novel. It perfectly frames the end of Lake Claire.

Somehow I missed this tree getting cut down. I'm sure there was some practical or safety related reason for it's removal, but I'm so sorry to see it go! Kids loved to climb up the sloping trunk, and it was such a great place to perch. What a shame.

Cape Photo of the Day - Photo #137

No good day of sailing lessons can begin without first a good stretch. Being flexible is what it's all about.

First crab of the day, and a really nice one at that! Eleven more jimmies to go to make a feast. Nice work guys.

Caught these guys catching some crabs down at Lake Claire while I was volunteering with the youth sailing camp. Classic Cape summer fun. I will show you what they netted tomorrow.

Cape Photo of the Day - Photo #102

Canoes and kayaks at Lake Claire ready for some summer fun on the Magothy. If you don't have one, you better buy a ticket for the ones being raffled off by the Goshen Farm Preservation Society. They are two beauties - just $5/ticket to win both and only 500 tickets will be sold. If you need a ticket, let me know. I have some. Even if you don't want or need the kayaks, your support for GFPS will be put to good use.

Cape Photo of the Day - Photo #94

Another shot from that pretty sunrise yesterday. It appealed to me particularly on this June 2nd, 2012, as I turn 46 years old. I like to imagine the boardwalk as the years left ahead of me with a boardwalk of roughly equal length behind me, give or take a decade. I hope at the end of my journey (hopefully far in the distance if a little more in sight than 20 years ago) I will come to a nice bench with a loved one or two or three to keep me company and a view to compare to this one.

Cape Photo of the Day - Photo #93

From sunset at Fedex to sunrise at Lake Claire. It looked like a pretty one this morning, so I drove over to Lake Claire to get some pictures. I got a LOT of pictures, and I will share more over the next few days. What a pretty first day of June!

Cape Photo of the Day - Photo #90

A little Memorial Day revelry going on at the Lake Claire beach yesterday afternoon. I hear Sandy Point was turning people away at capacity. No such worries along our perfect strip of waterfront. How lucky are we?

Cape Photo of the Day - Photo #61

Looks like there was some crabbing going on at the Lake Claire pier on Sunday afternoon. I can make out four chicken neck lines in the water, but no tuggers. A little early in the season yet. I see the crab pots out, so I know they are there, and early reports are that number are up this year, but we haven't seen any at our dock so far. Soon!!!

Cape Photo of the Day - Photo #38

Caper Vicky Jenkins snapped this lovely photo of Lake Claire this morning biding her time as her son did some fishing. How lucky are we to be able to walk down to the end of the street, drop a hook, and enjoy a morning like this in April? Thanks for letting me share your awesome Cape moment as the Cape Photo of the Day, Vicky!
