Cape Photo of the Day - Photo #365!!!

And that's a wrap!

I started this silly thing 365 days ago with a hazy College Parkway sunrise. I'm ending it a year later with a final Deep Creek sunset. I will continue to post pictures of the Cape when I have a good one to share, but I am releasing myself from the obligation of a daily entry. You will be spared the bad to mediocre forced shots, and I will be spared the 11:59 PM bolt out of bed that often came with the realization that I'd forgotten to post a Cape Photo of the Day.

I hope it's been a good year for all you Capers. I certainly can't complain. Even when all else is going badly, we can be thankful to live in such a very lovely place with reliable neighbors (OK, some are reliably pains in the ass, but even that is a constant! - not mine, mind you:).

If you take your own cameras out around the Cape, you'll be amazed at how easy it is to find beautiful subjects. I returned to the same ones over and over out of laziness often, but I know there are many others waiting for another photographer's lens. Some of you were nice enough to share some of yours when I was in a pinch this past year. Many thanks to my relief pitchers. It takes a village and all that...

Brrr, it was a cold one today! As evidence, I offer up a picture of Deep Creek with a light crust of ice on the surface as the sun is setting. Even that brilliant sun's rays couldn't melt off the chill. Although, for January, not too bad.  I've seen the creek look a lot more solid in years past.

I spent my whole day inside taking down Christmas but dashed out just in time to catch a shot of the sunset. Most of the decorations are eradicated, but it will be another few days before my house is back to it's standard state of disorder. Nature seems to change her seasonal decor so much more effortlessly.

It was a cold day in Navy Marine Corp Stadium, but Navy came away with a nice win, and the sunset was spectacular, as usual.

I took this picture at Navy-Marine Corp Memorial Stadium as the sun was setting behind a bank of clouds that rolled through on Saturday evening. The light shining on the backside of the clouds created a perfect and distinct outline along the edge of the clouds that looked almost like lightning in its intensity. I considered enhancing the photo, but it really didn't need any help. This is exactly as the camera and a happy crowd of Navy football fans viewed it.

Navy finally hosted their home opener yesterday, and it was a beautiful afternoon for football. Better yet, the Middies found their mojo and manhandled Moe the Kangaroo and the men from VMI. By the time the front line rolled in, treating us to a spectacular sunset, Navy had sealed the deal. Go Navy!

Here's that sunset I posted on Facebook yesterday evening following the wicked storm, but this time, with the Nikon instead of the iPhone. As it turns out, we did actually lose the tops of a few trees down by the water. That initial microburst or maybe even the funnel cloud clipped the edge of our yard and snapped three tree tops right off. Here's a picture of the largest one below. All in all, though, just happy we didn't lose power and nothing was in the way of our falling tree tops. The sunset was a nice, "I'm sorry" gesture from Mother Nature...

Cape St. Claire or Key West? The sunset last night could compete with some I've seen in Florida. The sun was on its way down for the night as we headed into Deep Creek after an evening of fishing. A pretty finale to a pretty day.

Upon our return from a few days of SC family time, we were greeted back in MD with furnace-like temperatures. The setting sun continued to blaze as we exited our plane at BWI. Let's hope this flaming sky does not portend another round of wicked weather. We have had our share.

A lot of Cape soccer fans took advantage of the opportunity to attend the US Men's National Team versus Brazil soccer exhibition match or "friendly" yesterday at Fedex Field. Even though the Brazilians bested the US team, as expected, it was a beautiful evening to enjoy the beautiful game. The South Americans gave us a show on the field, but the heavens provided an even more spectacular one in the sky above the stadium. The beautiful game meets beautiful sunset.

My Facebook friend, Chris, posted this picture yesterday on Facebook. After a long all-nighter with a group of high school and middle school girls and boys at Relay for Life, I was not in a good way to come up with a photo of my own today. Chris graciously agreed to let me use his. The resolution was reduced in the Facebook transfer process, but the beauty of the picture still shines through. The sun does seem to like to grace the Cape with its rays. Thanks Chris!

I know this view of Deep Creek has been done over and over, but it never gets old to me. The sunset last Friday was especially pretty with the clouds reflecting in the water. I'm sure it won't be the last time I share a Deep Creek photo - probably not the last time this month.
